Car Recovery Kilkenny and M9 Motorway Rescue
Broken down in Kilkenny or on the M9? One call to Mark on 087 288 2280 and a flatbed recovery truck is on the way. No call centre. No queue. A straight price before we move.
Kilkenny's local recovery truck, run by the garage behind it
Kilkenny Recovery Truck is the 24 hour vehicle recovery service of Webster's Garage in Three Castles, just north of Kilkenny city. It is run by Mark Webster, who answers the emergency line himself and drives the truck himself. If your car has stopped on the N10 ring road, on the hard shoulder of the M9 at Paulstown, outside your house in Loughboy or in a field near Inistioge, you ring one number and the same person who answers is the person who arrives.
We recover cars, vans, 4x4s, electric vehicles and motorbikes anywhere in Kilkenny city and County Kilkenny, and along the full length of the M9 motorway from Kilcullen to Waterford. We also cover the M8 at Urlingford and Durrow, the N24 in south Kilkenny and the roads into Carlow, Laois, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford. Every recovery is on a flatbed, so your car travels with all four wheels off the road.

Recovery services in Kilkenny
Whatever has gone wrong, there is one number: 087 288 2280. These are the jobs we do every day.
M9 motorway recovery, from Kilkenny's nearest truck
The M9 runs through County Kilkenny for more than 50 kilometres, from the Carlow border near Paulstown to the N25 at Grannagh outside Waterford. Our base at Three Castles is a short run from Junction 8 (Kilkenny North), Junction 9 (Danesfort) and Junction 7 (Paulstown), so for most of the Kilkenny section of the motorway we are the closest recovery truck there is.
If you break down on the M9, get everyone behind the barrier, note the last junction you passed and the direction of travel, and ring us. We recover to the next junction, to Kilkenny, to Waterford or to wherever you need to be. We do not carry out repairs on the hard shoulder because it is not safe; we lift the car and get you off the motorway first.
| Junction | Name | Serves |
|---|---|---|
| J7 | Paulstown / Gowran | Paulstown, Gowran, Goresbridge, Thomastown (southbound) |
| J8 | Kilkenny North | Kilkenny city, Durrow, the N77 and N78 |
| J9 | Danesfort (Kilkenny South) | Kilkenny city (south), Bennettsbridge, Stoneyford, Kells |

| J11 | Mullinavat | Mullinavat, New Ross, Glenmore, Piltown |

How recovery works
Why Kilkenny drivers ring Webster's first
Areas we cover in County Kilkenny and beyond
Kilkenny city and every town, village and townland in the county, plus the M9, M8, N24 and the border areas of Carlow, Laois, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford.
- Pull onto the hard shoulder as far left as you can and switch on your hazard lights.
- Get everyone out of the car through the left-hand doors and behind the crash barrier.
- Put on a hi-vis vest if you have one. Never stand between your car and the traffic.
- Do not try to change a tyre or fix anything on the hard shoulder.
- Note the nearest junction number and the blue marker posts, then call us.
- If you are in a live lane and cannot move the car, stay belted in and call 112 or 999 first.
- Hazard lights on and, if it is safe, roll the car in off the road or into a gateway.
- At night or in bad weather, stay visible: hi-vis vest, sidelights on, warning triangle well back.
- Keep passengers away from the road, especially on narrow county roads with no verge.
- Send us your Eircode or a Google Maps pin so we find you first time.
Car recovery in Kilkenny: your questions answered
What number do I ring for car recovery in Kilkenny?
Ring 087 288 2280. It is Mark Webster's direct emergency line and it is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You speak to the driver, not a call centre.
How quickly can a recovery truck reach me in Kilkenny?
Within Kilkenny city and the surrounding area we are usually with you in 20 to 30 minutes. For the M9 and the outer parts of the county allow 30 to 45 minutes. You get an honest ETA on the phone.
Do you cover the M9 motorway?
Yes. We cover the full length of the M9 from the M7 at Kilcullen to Waterford, with the fastest response on the County Kilkenny section between Junction 7 (Paulstown) and Junction 12 (Waterford).
How much does recovery cost?
It depends on distance, time of day and the type of recovery. A local jump start or tyre change costs a lot less than a night-time motorway recovery. You are given a clear price before the truck moves and that is the price you pay. See our pricing page for details.
Can you recover an automatic, electric or 4x4 vehicle?
Yes. All our recovery is on a flatbed, which is the correct method for automatics, hybrids, electric vehicles, 4x4s and lowered cars. Nothing is towed on its wheels.
Can you bring my car to my own garage rather than yours?
Yes. We bring your car to your home, your own mechanic, a main dealer, a body shop, an NCT centre or a scrapyard. Webster's Garage is there if you want it, but there is no obligation.
Will my insurance or breakdown cover pay for this?
If your policy includes breakdown assistance, ring the insurer's own line first, because most Irish policies only pay for recovery they arrange themselves. If you have no cover, if they cannot reach you in reasonable time, or if you want the car brought somewhere the policy will not cover, ring us directly and pay us. We give you a full receipt.
Do you recover vans, motorbikes and commercial vehicles?
Yes. Vans and light commercials up to 3.5 tonne, motorbikes, scooters, quads and small machinery. For anything heavier, ring us and we will tell you who can help.
