24 Hour Breakdown Recovery Kilkenny
A breakdown never happens at a convenient time. It is late, it is raining, you are on the hard shoulder of the M9 or in a lay-by outside Callan, and the car is not going anywhere. Kilkenny Recovery Truck provides genuine 24 hour breakdown recovery across Kilkenny: one number, answered by Mark Webster, every hour of every day.
Some breakdowns can be sorted on the spot. A flat battery, a flat tyre, a blown fuse or a loose connection can often be fixed at the roadside and you drive on. When the problem is bigger, we load the car on the flatbed and bring it home or to the garage. Either way, you are not left waiting for a subcontractor who may or may not come.
Common breakdowns we deal with every week
- Car will not start: flat battery, failed starter motor, immobiliser or key problems
- Engine cutting out or losing power on the motorway
- Overheating, coolant loss, broken fan belts and snapped auxiliary belts
- Clutch failure and gearbox problems (stuck in gear, no drive)
- Timing belt or timing chain failure
- Warning lights: engine management, oil pressure, battery and brake warnings
- Punctures, blowouts and buckled wheels from potholes
- Fuel problems: running out, wrong fuel, blocked fuel filters
- Electrical faults, alternator failure and dead dashboards
- DPF problems on diesels that have been driven mainly in town
What happens when you call
- You ring 087 288 2280 and speak directly to Mark.
- You tell him where you are (M9 junction, road, Eircode or landmark), what the car is and what it is doing.
- You get an honest ETA and a clear price before the truck moves.
- While we are on the way, you follow the safety advice below.
- We either fix the fault at the roadside or recover the car to wherever you need it to go.
Breakdown recovery or roadside repair?
We carry jump packs, a compressor, tyre repair kit, basic spares and the tools to deal with the common faults that stop cars. If it is a battery, a tyre, a belt or a simple electrical fault, we will try to get you moving so you avoid the cost of a full recovery.
If the fault is something that cannot be safely fixed at the roadside, or you are on the M9 where roadside work is not allowed, we recover the car. Webster's Garage can then diagnose and repair it in Three Castles, or we deliver it to your own mechanic.
We cover every road in County Kilkenny
The M9 motorway from Castledermot to Waterford, the N10 Kilkenny to Carlow road, the N76 to Clonmel, the N77 to Durrow and Portlaoise, the N78 to Castlecomer and Athy, the R700 to New Ross, the R693 to Freshford and Urlingford, and every regional and local road in between. We know the lay-bys, the bad bends and the spots with no phone signal.
- Pull onto the hard shoulder as far left as you can and switch on your hazard lights.
- Get everyone out of the car through the left-hand doors and behind the crash barrier.
- Put on a hi-vis vest if you have one. Never stand between your car and the traffic.
- Do not try to change a tyre or fix anything on the hard shoulder.
- Note the nearest junction number and the blue marker posts, then call us.
- If you are in a live lane and cannot move the car, stay belted in and call 112 or 999 first.

How breakdown recovery works with us
Breakdown Recovery in Kilkenny: common questions
Is the breakdown line really answered 24 hours a day?
Yes. 087 288 2280 is Mark's direct mobile and it is answered day and night, weekends and bank holidays included. If you get voicemail it means he is on another call or driving, and he will ring straight back.
How long will I be waiting?
It depends on where you are. In and around Kilkenny city it is typically 20 to 30 minutes. On the M9 or at the far ends of the county, allow 30 to 45 minutes. You will be told the real figure when you call.
Can you fix my car at the side of the road?
Often, yes. Jump starts, tyre changes, belts, fuses and minor electrical faults are regularly sorted on the spot. Anything more serious is recovered to the garage. On the motorway we always recover rather than attempt repairs on the hard shoulder.
Do I have to use a breakdown company my insurer picks?
You can ring whoever you like, but if you want the insurer to pay, most Irish policies require you to ring their own assistance line and use the truck they send. If you have no cover, if the wait they quote is too long, or if you want the car brought somewhere the policy does not cover, ring us directly and pay us. Many Kilkenny drivers keep both numbers.
What if I have passengers, children or a dog with me?
We will bring everyone with the car where we can. Tell Mark on the phone how many people are with you so he can plan for it. Pets are welcome in the cab.
