Winch, Ditch and Off-Road Recovery Kilkenny
Kilkenny's narrow country roads, deep drains, soft verges and the occasional flood or snowfall put cars in places they should not be. Kilkenny Recovery Truck provides winch and ditch recovery across the county, day and night. Whether you have slid off the road near Clogh on a frosty morning, bogged a car in a field at a wedding venue, or misjudged a farm lane near Inistioge, we get it out.
Our truck carries a powerful winch, extension straps, ground anchors and skates, and we know how to recover a car from a ditch without doing more damage than the ditch already has.
Winch and off-road recovery services
- Cars, vans and 4x4s off the road into ditches, drains and embankments
- Vehicles bogged in fields, car parks, lawns and wedding venues
- Snow and ice recovery on hills and untreated roads
- Flooded roads and cars stranded in water (we assess safety first)
- Vehicles that have rolled onto their side or roof, righted and recovered
- Recovery of 4x4s and jeeps from forestry tracks and farm lanes
- Vehicles that cannot roll, steer or be put in neutral (skates and dollies)
What to do if you go off the road
- Check everyone is unhurt. If anyone is injured, call 112 or 999 before anything else.
- Hazard lights on. If the car is partly on the road, get out and well clear of it. Country roads are narrow and the next driver may not see you in time.
- Do not keep trying to drive out. Spinning the wheels digs the car in deeper and can damage the clutch and gearbox.
- Send us your Eircode or a Google Maps pin. Ditch recoveries are usually in places with no landmarks.
- Stay warm and visible. We will give you a realistic ETA.
Insurance after a ditch recovery
A single vehicle accident where you leave the road is still an accident for insurance purposes. If the car is damaged, photograph everything before it is moved. Our invoice shows the location, time and the work done, which supports a claim if you need to make one.
- Hazard lights on and, if it is safe, roll the car in off the road or into a gateway.
- At night or in bad weather, stay visible: hi-vis vest, sidelights on, warning triangle well back.
- Keep passengers away from the road, especially on narrow county roads with no verge.
- Send us your Eircode or a Google Maps pin so we find you first time.

How winch and ditch recovery works with us
Winch and Ditch Recovery in Kilkenny: common questions
Will winching damage my car?
We attach to the manufacturer's recovery points, use soft straps and protect bodywork where we can. A car that has gone into a ditch may already be damaged underneath; we will tell you honestly what we can see.
Can you recover a car from a flooded road?
Yes, where it is safe. We will not put the driver or the truck into fast moving or deep water. If the car has been in water above the sills, do not try to start it.
Do you do tractor and farm machinery recovery?
For light machinery and quads, yes. For large tractors and heavy agricultural machinery, ring us and we will tell you straight whether we can do it or who can.
